What We Have to Overcome
Do not be afraid to let people in if there is a problem. There is nothing to be afraid of. Reach out and help those around you who are struggling in silence.
Mental Illness:
This has no gender. It can affect anyone and everyone, some more than others. No one is immune to it. It can disrupt many things from mood, thinking, and behavior.
Depression:
Within the many different disorders, depression is a group of conditions that affects the way a persons mood ele. It includes depressive episodes and bipolar disorder.
A person with major depression may feel sad all the time, have unexplained crying spells, or loses interest in usual activities.
Symptoms of major depression include: Having at least 5 of these symptoms (including at least 1 of those marked *) occurring nearly every day for at least 2 weeks:
- Feeling sad or empty*
- Decreased interest or pleasure in activities*
- Appetite change with weight loss or weight gain
- Decreased or increased sleeping
- Fatigue or loss of energy
- Feeling worthless or guilty
- Being either agitated or slowed down
- Difficulty thinking or concentrating
- Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide
Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a relatively common condition and a leading cause of years lived with disability across the world (Ferrari et al., 2013)
People who are depressed present with lower factors of growth and development of nervous tissues (Brunoni et al., 2008), increased levels of peripheral pro-inflammatory markers, such as interleukin (Dowlati et al., 2010; Valkanova et all., 2013), a decrease in hippocampus volume (Hamilton et all., 2012)
Although you may feel alone, there is hope!
Exercise is shown to help reverse the effects of depression and improve symptoms long term. Depression does not need to be a permanent thing, and we are here to give you resources to begin your road to recovery.
